Super Bowl Sunday a national holiday

Are you ready for some football? It's Super Bowl Sunday, a national holiday where we root for one of the two teams -- this time the New England Patriots and the New York Giants. I'm torn who to root for because my team is the New York Jets.

I was born in Massachusetts and grew up in Connecticut, but I also lived and worked in New York in Rockland County during the late '80s until the mid '90s. My son was born at Nyack Hospital and I was a metro reporter at the Journal News.

So do I root for Tom Brady and the Patriots or Eli Manning and the Giants. The Pats and the Jets both compete in the AFC East. So they are rivals. The Giants and the Jets are NYC rivals so that's a big conflict, too.

Since my wife, Sera, was born and raised in Puerto Rico, it looks like I'll be rooting for the Giants since their star wide receiver, Victor Cruz, is of Puerto Rican and African-American descent. Cruz is known not only for his touchdowns, but also for his salsa dance after them.

I've watched every Super Bowl since Joe Namath led the Jets to the upset win over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts led by QB Johnny Unitas in Super Bowl III.
