WINDEMERE, Fla. -- It pays to be Tiger Woods.

After all, it only took nine rounds of golf for Tiger Woods to be the PGA Tour's most impactful player of 2022. The PGA Tour awarded Woods with a $15 million bonus under its Player Impact Program, according to Mark Schlabach of ESPN.

The PGA Tour uses five criteria to determine which players have the most impact on the sport's popularity:

• Google searches;

• Q rating;

• Nielsen brand exposure rating;

• MVP index rating and Meltwater mentions (social media, TV, etc. measurements).

The 2022 formula was adjusted to give more of an emphasis on players being mentioned on broadcast TV and other traditional media outlets., according to Schlabach's report.

Tiger hasn't played since he missed the cut at the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews in July. He is still recovering from injuries he suffered in a car wreck outside Los Angeles in February 2021.

A record 23 players received at least $2 million in PIP bonuses this season, including three (Hideki MatsuyamaCameron Young, and Sam Burns) who finished in the top 20 of a modified criteria measurement, which will be used by the tour going forward, according to Schlabach.
