Today is the final day to register to vote in the Sept. 22 primary

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Today is the final day to register to vote in the Sept. 22 primary races for mayor and two city commission seats, according to the Volusia County Board of Elections.

City residents who are not registered may do so by going to the Department of Motor Vehicles (in the K-mart plaza on State Road 44), the New Smyrna Beach Public Library (1001 S. Dixie Freeway) or at the Volusia County Board of Elections Office in DeLand (125 W. New York Ave., DeLand). There are three candidates who have qualified in each of the three races:

Stephen Sather, Palmer Wilson and incumbent Jack Grasty for the Zone 2 City Commission seat; Frank Dalton Jr., Judy Reiker and incumbent Randy Richenberg for the Zone 1 City Commission seat; and Marilee Walters, Adam Barringer and incumbent Sally Mackay for the Mayor seat.

Registered New Smyrna Beach residents can vote for the candidate of their choice among the three seats. The commission seats are four years each and the mayoral seat is a two-year term.

There are no write-in candidates for the primary or the general election. Those who are not yet registered and want to vote in the Nov. 3 general election must do so by Oct. 5.
