
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A woman staved off an attempted purse snatching earlier tonight in a parking lot at 1401 S. Dixie Freeway, against a man who ended up running off empty handed,, New Smyrna Beach police said.
The woman was unharmed in the 7:50 p.m. attack, police said.
Here is a synopsis of what happened as written by Sgt. Shane Riggle in his report: "The victim stated the above described suspect approached her from behind in a poorly lit portion of the parking lot. The suspect attempted to pull the victim’s purse off of her shoulder, but was unsuccessful after a short struggle. The suspect was last seen running northeast from the parking lot. The victim was not injured during the incident. An area search with K-9 was done with negative results."
