Welcome to the greatest holiday in America today: Super Bowl Sunday. Go Steelers! Go Cardinals! So who is going to win the game? Here's a hint: These aren't your Daddy's Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cold War is over and so is the Steel Curtain. Remember when the Tennessee Titans stomped on the Terrible Towel?
Well, quarterback Kurt Warner and the St. Louis Cardinals are going to make history as the team with the worst regular-season record at 9-7 to win the Super Bowl. Warner has some superb weapons in super-stud receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.
Remember, Warner has a quick release and the quarterback is 1-1 in the Super Bowl in two previous trips with the St. Louis Rams. Ben Roethlisberger quarterbacked the Steelers to victory in 2006 over the Seattle Seahawks, 21-10, but he wasn't very good in that game. Wide receiver Hines Ward was the MVP and Jerome Bettis finally got his ring.
Roethlisberger should be much better this time around, if his line can keep him from getting sacked. Ward has a bad knee and Bettis retired after winning that last Super Bowl.
So my prediction is the Cardinals, 34-24, but then again, the age-old adage is on any given Sunday, a football team can lose.
This isn't just any other Sunday game, is it?
The Steelers could break the three-way tie with Dallas and San Francisco at five Super Bowls by winning a sixth today.
Like many sports fans across America, it's kind of neat to root for the underdog when America's team is the Steelers in this contest. So go Cards, but I can't promise a victory.
After all, Arizona is the home of Sen. John McCain. He got his butt kicked by Barack Obama, a Chicago Bears fan, who is rooting for the Steelers. Maybe the results will be different today than they were on Election Day.
