WFTV Donates $10K to help Volusia County flood victims

Editor's Note: This was written by WFTV Channel 9 Orlando:

It was the third most expensive weather disaster for Volusia County behind the hurricanes of 2004. The May floods created more than $68 million in damage, and forced thousands out of their homes.

Eyewitness News covered the devastating floods and recognized the need for help. That’s why WFTV Channel 9, WFTV 9 Family Connection and our corporate partners will donate $10,000 to help victims in Volusia County.

Chief Meteorologist Tom Terry will present the check to United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties at the organization’s office, located at 3747 W. International Blvd. in Daytona Beach, on Monday June 8th at 11:00 a.m.

United Way will then distribute the money via its local Partner Agencies to Volusia County’s hardest hit victims so they can begin to pick up the pieces.

“WFTV is committed to our community,” says Shawn Bartelt, General Manager for WFTV/WRDQ. “That’s why we felt it was so important to be a part of the clean up process in Volusia County and help victims who are struggling to get by.”
