
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The targeted victim was an 84-year-old Edgewater woman sitting in her car at the New Smyrna Beach K-Mart on 1724 State Road 44. The would-be criminal: A 13-year-old boy.
That was back on May 2, at approximtely 1:50 p.m., the elderly female victim observed an unknown male, thought to be a teen-ager, described as white, weaing a maroon hooded sweatshirt, approached her vehicle while she sat in her vehicle reading a newspaper in the K-Mart parking lot. The teen concealed his hands in his sweatshirt, as if he had a firearm, poked the woman on the shoulder and demanded money. When she said she had none, he ran off.
"At the time, police searched the area but were unable to find the suspect," police spokesman Sgt. Michael Brouillette said.
But today, today, New Smyrna Beach Police detectives have identified the juvenile male responsible for
the attempted robbery -- a 13-year-old boy.
The boy has been charged with attempted robbery, a felony, and is currently being detained for an unrelated offense at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Daytona Beach.
