Loggerhead sea turtle to be released July 7 at NSB's Canaveral National Seashore

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Volusia County Marine Science Center rehabilitation team members are planning the release of a sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle, called Cluster, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, weather permitting. The beachside release will be at Canaveral National Seashore, 7611 S. Atlantic Ave., New Smyrna Beach.

Parking is available by the administration building. The release will be on the beach beyond the boardwalk.

"Cluster" was found stranded at Canaveral National Seashore in the evening of April 27, said Michelle Coats, a Volusia County spokeswoman. Staff from Canaveral National Seashore brought the loggerhead sea turtle to the Marine Science Center for immediate treatment. The sea turtle was underweight, hypoglycemic and suffered from an intestinal blockage.

After more than two months of intensive care, Cluster is healthy and ready to return to the ocean.
