DAYTONA BEACH — A homeless man who either jumped or fell to his death from the International Speedway Bridge over the weekend was identified today as 52-year-old Luis Carino.
Police said several witnesses reported the victim was threatening to jump, though the Medical Examiner's Office has yet to rule the cause of death as a suicide.
Also to be determined is whether he died from the fall or because he drowned from being unable to swim.
A search of the Halifax River by police with the help of the Sheriff's Marine Patrol shortly after the 7:30 p.m. Saturday incident proved fruitless, but just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday, people in a pontoon boat spotted the body near the Orange Avenue Bridge, according to a Daytona Beach police report.
