NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A search is under way for a 15-year-old boy who allegedly threw a stick at a passing school bus heading north in the 800 block of South Myrtle Avenue this afternoon that injured three kids on board when a window was shattered, New Smyrna Beach police said,
The incident happened at 4 p.m. just north of the New Smyrna Beach Middle School by the boy, whose name was not released by police because of his age and believed to be a middle school student.
"The stick caused one of the bus windows to break, causing minor injuries (cuts and scratches) to three students who were passengers on
the bus," police Sgt. Eugene Griffith wrote in his report. "NSB Fire/Rescue and EVAC treated the students at the scene. At the time of the report, none of the injured students were taken to the hospital."
The juvenile, who lives in New Smyrna Beach, ran from the scene, Greiffith said, adding criminal charges are pending completion of the investigation. He said school administrators were notified of the incident by police.
