Edgewater cops: Man killed in freak accident

EDGEWATER -- A man was killed Saturday while directing a motorist backing up his truck with an attached trailer and police said they are trying to determine whether he was run over over crushed by the vehicle, according to an Edgewater police news release.

The victim's name was not released because police are trying to contact his relatives.

The man died in the 11:39 p.m. accident in the 100 block of Woodley Avenue when he was directing Harry Theal, who was backing the truck and 30-foot trailer into a yard, according to the police report. The two were conversing on a two-way radio during the backing up and then after Theal said he straightened out his wheels, he saw his friend on the ground near a 6-foot concrete wall, according to the report.

The victim wa transported by EVAC to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
