DELAND -- Blue Heron International Pictures and The Athens Theatre announced today that PBS television celebrity Charlie Carlson will emcee "A Night With Johnny Duncan."
Duncan, a Hollywood legend, will appear live on stage at the historic Athens Theatre 7p.m. Friday, Nov. 13. The Box Office opens at 6.
"We'll start off the show with Al Gliniecki, who will be on stage attempting to beat his one minute Guinness World Record tying cherry stems with his tongue," said Athens manager Ed Kirkland. "Then we'll show an episode of the 1949 serial Batman & Robin, followed by Gene Autry's Trail to San Antone."
"Johnny starred in both films, so it will be a real treat to see him on-screen and then have him walk up live on stage," said Kirkland.
In addition to playing the original Robin with Robert Lowery as Batman, Duncan appeared with all of the Hollywood greats in the studio heydays. He socialized with Humphrey Bogart, who he worked with in three films, and lived next door to Audie Murphy. In addition to teaching Marlon Brando how to ride motorcycles, Duncan also performed 'saddle falls' for Michael Landon on
Bonanza. He also appeared as one of the East Side Kids in several movies with Leo Gorcey and Huntz Hall.
Duncan will be available to meet members of the audience and sign special autograph photo cards which will be given out free to the first 300 people in the door.
Emcee Charlie Carlson of Edgewater is also no stranger to the camera, with film credits that include Curse of the Blair Witch, Hunt For the Devil, and Henry Blackhart is Dead. He currently appears on the PBS TV show Weird Florida: Roads Less Traveled.
"Anyone who wants to experience the drama of an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record and who also appreciates the golden years of Hollywood will love this night at The Athens," said show producer Richard Lester.
"Charlie Carlson, Johnny Duncan and Al Gliniecki -- it doesn't get any better than that. I will be in the audience myself that night."
Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for children.
