DELAND -- Blue Heron International Pictures announced today that Daytona Beach Director Gary Lester has been assigned to film the company's newest documentary.
The production will feature Hollywood legend Johnny Duncan.
"We'll film his show next Friday night at the Athens Theatre in DeLand, Florida, as well as interview some of his fans," said Lester.
"We have also gathered dozens of photographs of people who worked with Johnny during the golden age of the Hollywood studios."
Duncan is scheduled to appear live on stage at the historic Athens Theatre, 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13. Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for children.
"We'll start off the show with Al Gliniecki, who will be on stage attempting to beat his one minute Guinness World Record tying cherry stems with his tongue," said Athens manager Ed Kirkland. "Then we'll show an episode of
the 1949 serial Batman & Robin, followed by Gene Autry's Trail to San Antone."
"Johnny starred in both films, so it will be a real treat to see him on-screen and then have him walk up live on stage," Kirkland said.
In addition to playing the original Robin with Robert Lowery as Batman, Duncan appeared with all of the Hollywood greats in the studio heydays. He socialized with Humphrey Bogart, who he worked with in three films, and lived next door to Audie Murphy. In addition to teaching Marlon Brando how to ride motorcycles, Duncan also performed 'saddle falls' for Michael Landon on
Bonanza. He also appeared as one of the East Side Kids in several movies with Leo Gorcey and Huntz Hall.
Johnny with Charlie Carlson, who will emcee the event at The Athens. Duncan will be available to meet members of the audience and sign special autograph photo cards, which will be given out free to the first 300 people in the door.
"Our cameras will be there, recording everything for posterity," Lester said. "Anyone who loves the golden years of Hollywood will love the show at The Athens, and I believe they will love the documentary that comes out of it later on."
