After vacationing with my parents in Florida as a child, one of my goals was to eventually live here. My dream became a reality in 1995. I sold my businesses in Ohio, all my real estate, and moved to sunny New Smyrna Beach. I was thrilled, ecstatic, and embarked on a new business and a life in the sun. I felt that I was truly living my dream in paradise.
From 1995 to 2005 over 1 million moved to Florida, and you are probably one of them. We moved here, because in 2003, Florida's economy ranked first in the nation. Fast-Forward to 2010. We now have a nightmare. Florida's economy has plummeted to 47th nationally.
We are losing population as retires, second home owners, and small businesses are moving to other states with a lower tax burden.
Here's what happened: Our local, county, and state government, decided to go on a spending spree, and they haven't stopped. If they do not reduce taxes, eliminate the government waste, and return Florida to a healthy business environment we are doomed, and in our "worst nightmare."
I do not want to leave, but I will....., if it does not turn around. What about you?
That is why I got involved in local politics. I want my dream back! As I said before, "It starts in your own backyard".
Please join me in the effort to convince our elected folks that we are in very precarious times and if they do not "get it right" this year, well..... welcome to the nightmare!
