The dawn of the New Year is one of my favorite holidays. I believe that it presents us with an unrivaled opportunity to examine our lives and make changes for the future.
In our hectic modern lifestyle, we're so concerned with our day-to-day existence that we often forget to look at the bigger picture. The holiday gives us the chance to reflect on the entire scope of the previous year.
This opportunity to separate the trivial from the truly important can increase our happiness and make us more productive in the year to come. Let us never forget our family, our friends, and those who are close to us, for they are the ones that truly matter.
The new year also reminds us that, despite the economic hardships that we now face, our current situation is not permanent. Even though the recession seems never-ending, prosperity will, in fact, return.
In the meantime, we can do our best to make positive changes in our own lives, to prepare ourselves for new opportunities that the new year will bring. We still live in the greatest country on earth, with more freedom and opportunity than anybody else.
Our best days still lie ahead.
I'm thankful for all of the support that I've received from our community in 2010, and I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that 2011 will bring.
Sincerely,
Dorothy L. Hukill State Representative District 28
