It's the new year and as singer Taylor Swift would say, "end of a decade, but the start of an age." Every year people make their resolutions and every year they think back at the ones that they didn't fulfill from years past. It's a new decade and with that comes the chance to be new person.
You don't want to completely abandon who you already are, but maybe you want to re-invent yourself; make some changes. So what is everybody's resolution in2 011?
Maybe it's to loose weight or get more exercise? How about saving money by budgeting or limiting personal pleasures to afford the necessities?
Well, maybe if we want to see some actual changes occur, we can look inside ourselves versus outside, at material things.
Why don't we aim to be a more generous person and donate money to charities and help to end world hunger. We could hope to be a more rational and patient person as well.
Instead of blowing up at people when they do something wrong, we could try to take a deep breath and calm ourselves down.
What if we all hoped to just be better people then the world would be so much better: Wars could be prevented, fights stopped, if only people aimed to be better people when the ball dropped on New Year's Eve.
Cheyenne's best friend, Bear, was run over during the holidays.
On another note, the holidays went well. After recovering from the flu, like most people had been doing, I have enjoyed the winter holiday. I spent time with my family and it was great! I have also went to my friend's house and our families got together several times. We baked many things and even had Christmas dinner together.
I hope everybody enjoyed their holiday break as much as I am however a sad tragedy did occur for me. On December 27th, my two year old cat, Little Bear was hit by a car and killed. My family and I were devastated for we take care of many cats that would otherwise go hungry.
Little Bear hadn't shown up for dinner on the 26th, but we just assumed he had gone somewhere to keep warm. On the next day however, my mom discovered the poor, innocent cat. I wanted to send a shout-out to all drivers. Please, when you are driving, obey the speed limit.
Do not drink and drive just for the holidays, but every time you get in behind the wheel for you need to be considerate of others.
Do not text and drive or use your phone but if you have to, please pull over.
Distractions are so common these days for deaths of other people as well as animals and they could all be avoided. I know that there is no getting back the small life I lost, but had someone been paying attention, it might not have ended the way it did.
I keep hoping for my cat to walk up to me; that it had been a mistake; that he had not been killed. But isn't that the way we all think after a challenging death? That they're going to wake up but they never do, and they never will.
I know it might have been an accident but please, respect others throughout the year and not just during the holidays. It's as simple as that: Be nice to each other. That is what this world truly needs; not food or money, but kindness.
