NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- In this downtrodden economy, there are three major stories NSBNews.net is going to follow under the heading of "Show Me the Money." These stories will be presented as we develop them over the next several weeks and months as part of our commitment to in-depth reporting. The "Show Me the Money" segments will include "The American Music Festival Fiasco," "The Top 100 Public Salaries" and "New Smyrna Beach CRA Spending."
Show Me The Money: The American Music Festival Fiasco
NSBNews.net will bring you the fallout from the American Music Festival. NSBNews.net will be assisted in this ongoing project by community blogger Sally Gillies of SallyGillies.net. We will alternate between hard-driven stories on the AMF fiasco and Gillies' unique look at the situation from her own research, including thousands of pages in documents. Together, we will bring you the players involved, many of them among the power elite of Volusia County. We'll explain the role of the media or lack thereof, the turmoil that ensued and how the taxpayer continues to be left holding the bag while those involved have made out just fine.
Show Me The Money: Top 100 Volusia Public Salaries (and Top 100 in NSB)
NSBNews.net will delve into the top public money makers across the Volusia County landscape, based on salaries earned in calendar 2010. We'll look at the top earners in local and county government, the hospitals and colleges; any public entity that receives taxpayer money, including in the case of the hospitals money for indigent care. This will be the most definitive look at what those in the public sector are earning. We'll also provide the Top 100 salaries in New Smyrna Beach.
Show Me The Money: New Smyrna Beach CRA spending
Because NSBNews.net focuses on New Smyrna Beach, we want to show you what the Community Redevelopment Agency is spending money on; with emphasis on community projects, advertising and promotions. We'll take a look at where money has been spent and where the CRA is headed with sunsetting in 2015.
