Well folks, here we go: The new year has begun and brings with it the many upcoming elections. I don’t know about you, but I am already so sick and tired of all the rhetoric.
From now on all the ads will only escalate, the name calling and mudslinging will worsen, each candidate will tell us they are the only good guy and all the others are lying to us. The airwaves will drip with their boasts and maligning. Yuck!
I think there should be a law that each candidate can only use a set amount of money like maybe a thousand dollars -- not the millions used now. The amount of money spent on these campaigns could feed and clothe so many people and create jobs this country badly needs which would do more good than any of them can even if elected.
They all think they can go to Washington and snap their fingers and make sweeping changes but they forget the hoops that have to be jumped through before anything near change occurs. I do feel they all start out with the right intentions then get in office and find out that Congress won’t allow their ideas to even be considered. Partisan politics has stopped so many presidents in their tracks it’s a pity. The president doesn’t really have the power he thinks he will have.
When our nation was born, there was no radio, no television, no trains nor airplanes. The only way to communicate to this vast country of ours was by horse we still managed to elect presidents. They didn’t have to spend millions to do it either. They had their differences between parties but when it came right down to the nitty gritty they found a compromise without all the theatrics we have seen in recent months.
What the Congress has put this country through is unbelievable. As usual, the entire country was threatened with dire circumstances because they couldn’t agree on debt ceilings and such when we all knew at one minute to midnight of the last day they’d finally agree to something but they had to scare the pants off us poor citizens first. What kind of way is that to run a country?

I haven’t thought much of any of the debates so far among the Republicans. Mostly, they came out circus like. The Democrats and Republicans both think their way is the only way and no country can run on that kind of thinking. Compromise should be part of everyone’s agenda, no one person or group is always right. I am not looking forward to the next 10 or 11 months and will try to weed out what the candidates really think they stand for before making any decisions about voting.
Please don’t just be a Democrat or Republican. Vote for the person you think will do what is needed for this country as a whole. No matter which party you decide on get out there and vote your conscience. Help your friends and neighbors get to the polls. Exercise your right to have a say in your government.
