Benefit golf tournament Saturday in New Smyrna Beach to benefit March of Dimes

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The second annual Lester C. Weimer Memorial “Birdies for Babies” golf tournament benefiting the March of Dimes takes place on Saturday at Hidden Lakes Golf Club, 35 Fairgreen Ave. All proceeds go to the March of Dimes.

For the sixth time in as many years, the Central Florida March of Dimes, Southeast Volusia community leaders and the New Smyrna Beach Board of Realtors are partnered to raise funds for the March of Dimes. Founded by Realtor Lester Weimer in 2007, the tournament was named in his honor after his untimely death just before the fifth annual tournament he organized last year. Grieving friends and supporters decided to keep it going in his honor.

Since its beginning, this golf tournament has annually been recognized as either the leading March of Dimes fundraiser for Central Florida, Volusia County or both. With registration beginning at 7 a.m. and an 8 a.m. tee-off, the event registration includes not just golf, golf carts, range balls, prizes, beverage stations throughout the course and lunch, but includes a silent auction as well.

Auction items include gift certificates, art, collectables and unique opportunities. How about the about to be retired jersey of an Atlanta Braves pitching Hall of Famer or an electric organ? Golfers will compete for prizes for hole in one (a golf cart), the longest drive (male and female), and closest to the Pin. There will also be a putting contest, with a 3-day 2-night stay at a golf resort as the prize. Non-golfing attendees may purchase lunch for just $10. While registration is strong, there are still a few slots for additional players at $55 each.
