What's the hurry on extending sales tax in Volusia County?

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Gov. Scott announced he's seeking an additional $541 Million for education in the state budget. Shouldn't we wait to see if this funding is confirmed by the State legislature before we rush into a mid-year poorly structured low turnout election to make a major decision whether to extend the sales tax in Volusia County for 15 years to benefit the School District?

It seems both premature and ill conceived.

Scott has not announced if this added funding will come from an increase in the Required Local Effort. It's quite likely we could end up with both a sales tax and a property tax increase. What's the hurry?
