NSB City Commision approves 2 percent raise for cops; orders investigation of Angler's Club

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- An overflow crowd of well over 200 residents saw the City Commission unanimously approve 2 percent wage increases for police officers and a vote to spend $20,000 to investigate the legalities of the city's "sweetheart" lease with the Angler's Yacht Club for use of city-owned property.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Have you seen the woman in this video? She's wanted by New Smyrna Beach police on charges of armed robbery and aggravated battery Sunday at Beall's Outlet, in the NSB Regional Shopping Center, 1914 State Road 44. A loss prevention officer at the store suffered a cut to his hand in a scuffle with the woman and a male accomplice, police said.

6. Tomoka Corrections officer Donna Fitzgerald murdered -- stabbed 25 times by inmate

Courtesy photos. Corrections officer Donna Fitzgerald was murdered by an inmate at Tomoka prison -- stabbed 25 times on June 25 while she was working alone in a section of the prison with 13 inmates. Enoch Hall, a lifer, is charged with capital murder and faces the death penalty, if convicted at trial.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Corrections officer Donna Fitzgerald was a single mother working extra hours at the Tomoka Correctional Institute when she was savagely attacked the night of June 25 -- stabbed 25 times to death by an inmate already serving two life sentences, according to authorities.

The New Smyrna Beach City Commission heard a presentation from Personnel Director Carol Hargy on a proposed 2 percent increase for police officers earlier this month, but a vote was put off after city resident Bill Kolesczar challenged the legality of such a vote since the public had not been noticed, setting the stage for tonight's vote. 7. Swimmer Ryan Lochte golden in Beijing Olympics; so is volleyballer Phil Dalhauser

DAYTONA BEACH -- Michael Phelps was the big star of the Summer Olympics in Beijing, but local son Ryan Lochte, the 24-year-old Spruce Creek High School and University of Florida graduate, was pretty good, too, winning a gold with Phelps and an individual gold in the 200-meter backstroke -- beating the world record.

DAYTONA BEACH -- David Donohue passed Juan Pablo Montoya with 39 minutes remaining and held on to win the 47th Rolex 24 At Daytona - on the 40th anniversary of his father, Mark Donohue's, victory in the 1969 event, according to a post-race Rolex press release.

DAYTONA BEACH -- In the waning three hoyurs of the 47th Rolex 24 At Daytona, four teams are battling right down to the wire in America's premier sports car race. Buddy Rice leading in the No. 58 Brumos Racing Porsche RIley, is being chased by the No. 01 TELMEX/Target Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates driver Scott Pruett, Pedro Lamy in the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Ford Dallara, and Terry Borcheller in the No. 59 Brumos Racing Porsche Riley, according to a Rolex press release race recap.
