GOP Congresswoman Sandy Adams to Run in new 7th district based in Seminole County

Greater New Smyrna Beach included in new redistricting plan

Sandy AdamsNEW SYRNA BEACH -- Following the introduction of a compromise redistricting plan scheduled for final passage in the Florida House and Senate this week, Representative Sandy Adams announced she will declare her candidacy for the new District 7, based in Seminole County and including parts of Orange and Volusia counties.

“I strongly believe in public service and working to make our nation’s economy stronger and more secure," Adams said Monday.

Volusia County Sheriff's Office: Man shot to death in Seville

PIERSON -- A man was found shot to death just after 6 tonight at the intersection of Lawrence and Barton streets in Seville, a Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.

No information was released on the victim who was pronounced dead at the sacejusta few feet from the roadway.

"Deputies have a K9 unit and helicopter in the area searching for anyone who may have been associated with the incident," Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The fallout from scandals with New Smyrna Beach's two special taxing authorities continues with the sudden resignation of George Richford from the board of the Southeast Volusia Advertising Authority.

Richford's letter to Volusia County Council member Joyce Cusack was short and to the point: "Please accept my resignation, effective immediately from the SVAA Board. Thank you for the appointment."

New Smyrna Beach CRA Chairman Jim Kosmas resigns; says he was 'thrown under the bus'

Jim KosmasNEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Jim Kosmas has resigned his seat on the CRA, the fifth board member to do so since April, which moves the responsibility for the disbursement of funds on the shoulders of the City Commission.

Like the others, the resignation was effective immediately, but this has a far greater personal tone to it by Kosmas who has felt disrespected by commissioners and even misled by his board's own attorney.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Mass murderer Jerone Hunter is not getting off Florida's death row anytime soon, if ever, after a circuit judge's ruling Wednesday that he failed to prove ineffective assistance of counsel at his capital murder trial six years ago.
