NSB Pancakes in the Park helps stack funds for Historical Society

New Smyrna Beach native Jim Humphrey, 75, enjoys pancakes and good conversation with Rick Newell, president of the Southeast Volusia Historical Society, earlier today for the annual Pancakes in the Park fundraiser at Old Fort Park in New Smyrna Beach. The event drew 600 people for the 7-11 a.m. breakfast today, which featured a display of antique cars, a mini-yard and book sale and plenty of comaraderie.

Florida has 23 confirmed cases of swine flu

DELAND -- All four Florida Department of Health laboratories have received testing supplies from the Centers for Disease Control and now can test samples to confirm H1N1 Swine Flu. This testing capability allows the state to expedite results because it no longer need to send probable cases to CDC laboratories.

Florida has 23 confirmed cases in the following counties: one in Alachua, Clay, Indian River, Okechobee, Orange, Seminole, and Pinellas; two in Dade, three in Lee , five in Broward, and six in Hillsborough.

Sheriff: Ormond Beach mother charged with manslaughter in baby's drowning

ORMOND BEACH -- An Ormond Beach mother was arrested earlier today on a warrant charging her with aggravated manslaughter in the drowning of her baby boy last month, A Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.

The Sheriff's Office's investigation of the April 6 death of 4-month-old Trenton Giachette inside his family's home near Ormond Beach resulted in an arrest warrant being issued toay. The mother, 30-year-old Christal Giachetti, was picked up in New York early this evening and is being held on $150,000 bond.
