Daniel Shalloway, 64, of Osceola County, a pilot and business owner, was killed Tuesday night when he crashed into a mobile home near West Palm Beach. A resident of the home was killed, too.

Kissimmee cops team up with Special Olympics Florida Osceola County athletes for family-Friendly game of kickball

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Kissimmee Police and Special Olympics Florida announce the first annual Heroes vs. Heroes Kickball Challenge 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today today at the Kissimmee Lakefront Park.

Members of the Kissimmee Police Department will team up with Osceola County Special Olympic athletes for two family friendly kickball games that will be officiated by characters from Medieval Times. The event will also consist of carnival games, raffles, a DJ, bounce house and food trucks. The public is encouraged to attend and cheer on the players while supporting Special Olympics Florida.

City of Kissimmee Presents Ruby Award to Orange Bowl Lanes

KISSIMMEE -- As part of its economic development retention efforts, the City of Kissimmee continues to recognize companies that have been in business, within the City limits, for more than 40 years.

As such, during the Dec. 16 City Commission meeting, a Ruby Award was presented to Orange Bowl Lanes, a company that opened in the City of Kissimmee in 1960. Orange Bowl Lanes, located on Vine Street, is a popular 12-lane bowling center and is home to third- and fourth-generation league bowlers. Children who grew up with the youth league continue to play as adults and have brought their children, and now even their grandchildren to participate in leagues. Orange Bowl Lanes Sunday night league has been taking place for 50 years.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – It was almost a decade ago ago that 22-year-old Kelly Ann Balderas was found slain in her motel room at the former Breeze Inn, located at 900 E. Vine St. by the hotel manager in well-being check after she hadn't bee heard from by friends for three days, Kissimmee cops said.

The locale is now a drug treatment facility. And it is near where Banderas's mother, mother, Diana Bryan, will be holding a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Saturday, in remembrance of her daughter who was beaten to death. The homicide remains unsolved.

The vigil will be at the corner of Damon and East Vine streets, said Stacie Miller, spokeswoman for the Kissimmee police force.

It was 10 years earlier on March 6, 2004, that Kelly Ann Balderas's body was found at 4 p.m. in her hotel room with obvious signs of trauma to her body, Miller said.

KISSIMMEE -- City cops responded at 12:15 p.m. today to the International House of Pancakes at 1715 West Vine Street after a man walked up to the cashier, implied he had a gun and demanded cash, before walking out the door with a wad of money.

"He threatened a server and demanded money from the register, Kissimmee police spokesman Stacie Miller told Headline Surfer®. "After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect left on foot. No one inside the restaurant was injured during the incident."
