DAYTONA BEACH -- Qualifying for the 2014 elections ends June 20. With that in mind, Headline Surfer® will begin its 2014 "public candidate debates" in the Oak Hill City Hall on June 24-25 with a focus on the district 3 and at-large County Council races as well as the two city commission seats.
Photo for Headline Surfer® / Rich Gailey, candidate for County Council District 5 seat representing DeBary, Deltona and Enterprise, is shown here at the recent Memorial Day tribute at Memorial Gardens in Deltona, with his wife, Lisa; their son, Ricky, and daughter, Jackie. Among the fallen the Gailey family paid respect to were Gailey's father-in-law, Nate Feldman, who enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. He died two years ago.

PALATKA -- It was President Truman who said, "I'll stand by [you] but if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen." Palatka City Commissioner Allegra Kitchens can relate to the pressure of politics; her last name befitting of the controversy stirred up earlier this year.
ORLANDO -- When she first hit the TV airwaves more than a decade ago, she was Lauren Perkins. Then she got married. But it didn't take WKMG Local 6 followers long to match the name Lauren Rowe with the familiar face and reassuring voice.
DELAND -- A 57-year-old apparently drunken man was run over and killed Friday night by a large SUV apparently after he stopped walking while in the middle of North Woodland Boulevard to drink a beer, cops said.
Blog spots like New Smyrna Beach Mom are reporting frontline news that the Daytona Beach News-Journal continues to ignore on what could be one of the biggest election battles of 2014, that not only puts the spotlight on the controversial run Deb Denys has had since her return to elective office nearly two years ago, and hearkening to her disastrous four years on the Volusia County School Board back in the early 1990s.
