 DAYTONA BEACH -- Daytona International Speedway has hired Ryan Tolley as director of sales effective Feb. 7. Andrew Booth has been promoted to senior manager of media relations and Joann Mantovani has been promoted to senior manager of advertising and promotions.

They won a berth in the postseason with a 42-19 drubbing of district foe Viera. 'Cudas Coach Lance Jenkins was pleased as well. Check out our exclusive videos. At left, 2010 Homecoming Queen Kacey Joiner is all smiles before the raucous fans at the NSB Sports Complex, as she and the fans dealt with nightime temps that dipped into the low 50s. Believe it or not, even Coach Jenkins was smiling (OK, maybe not) after the game.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Even 'Cudas Coach Lance Jenkins caught a glimpse of Homecoming during halftime of the New Smyrna Beach romp of Viera that mercifully ended 42-19. The win Friday night at the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex before a packed home crowd meant a second consecutive post-season in District 14-4A and first under Jenkins.

New Smyrna Beach quarterback Evan Schroeder and running back Raheem Mostert connected on several passing plays with no timeouts, the final one a touchdown strike, to come from behind in the closing minute of Thursday's home game for a 28-24 win over the previously unbeaten DeLand Bulldogs. NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- 'Cudas quarteback Evan Schroeder and running back Raheem Mostert hooked up on a series of passing plays starting from their own 25-yard line, the final one a 9-yard touchdown strike to give New  Smyrna Beach a 28-24 come-from-behind victory over previously unbeaten DeLand at the NSB Sports Complex.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Telvin Hooks dashed 56 yards for a touchdown to give the 'Cudas a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but it was transfer running back's former team, Mainland, that scored the final 27 points to win the game Friday night at home, 27-7.

New Smyrna Beach lost its first game of the season in its home opener Friday, 21-12 to Deltona to fall to 2-1 on the season with Cudas head coach Lance Jenkins saying his team was outcoached.

The Deltona Wolves were strong in the trenches, easily getting to the 'Cudas backfield on several key plays that led to scoring on turnovers.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Cudas scored on the opening kickoff of the game with running Raheem Mostert sprinting 94 yards to put the Cudas up 6-0. But it was the power runs of Deltona fullback Josh Dagley who ran in three touchdowns and a stellar defense by the visiting team en route to a 21-12 loss at the NSB Sports Complex before a packed house.

Cudas play at Seabreeze on Friday

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Cudas football team (1-0) travels to Ormond Beach Friday to play Seabreeze. The game starts at 7 p.m.

The Cudas opened the 2010 season last Friday with a 21-0 win on the road against Pine Ridge in Deltona. Pine Ridge never got its offense rolling when it counted, with two costly turnovers, including a fumble on the Cudas' goal line in the second half.

Week 9 Daytona International Speedway repave update: Paving moves to the high banks

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The crew from Lane Construction began the most challenging aspect of the 2010 Daytona Repave on Thursday morning - putting new asphalt on the steep 31-degree high banks of Daytona International Speedway. Workers paved the drainage layer in Turns 3 and 4, the first of four layers that will make up the 2.5-mile tri-oval.

Daytona International Speedway repavement project under way

DAYTONA BEACH -- The green flag has waved on the historic Daytona International Speedway repavement. On Monday, crews began the process by removing lights poles, safer barrier and safety fence.

The safety fence and 57 light poles in both ends of the high banks are being removed as well 8,300 linear feet of safer barrier throughout the facility. The asphalt removal is expected to begin later this week or early next week.

The race’s eighth caution came out in lap 148 as 19 cars were collected in the "big one" and the red flag shown at Daytona International Speedway.
