SEVILLE -- The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery of a Seville convenience store Tuesday morning.

Three employees were in the store when a man with a handgun entered and demanded cash. There were no shots fired or any injuries. Several deputies, a K-9 unit and a Sheriff’s Office helicopter responded to the scene, but the suspect was not found.

During a conversation with a potential candidate for public office last week, the future politician complained about the money spent by the New Smyrna Beach CRA (Community Redevelopment Agency). The concern was over the city budget and the expenditure of “our tax dollars.”

Washington, DC -- Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas, D-New Smyrna Beach, announced that she will be leading a bipartisan Congressional Delegation of U.S. representatives from across the country to witness the launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour on Saturday.

Kosmas will use the opportunity to highlight the significance of a robust human spaceflight program for science, technology, and national security and to encourage her colleagues to support fully funding this critical mission.

Grace and courage: I saw two women who possessed those attributes in the past several weeks. They say that women are the weaker sex, but where the heck did that come from? Most women I have known have been strong, capable and nurturing at the same time. Not a weak one in the bunch.

The two women I speak of are Elizabeth Edwards and Farrah Fawcett.

Mrs. John Edwards who is fighting a terminal cancer for the second time and the fact that her husband cheated on her and perhaps has a child with this other woman personified grace during her interview with Oprah.

Dolores Durkin, 82, of New Smyrna Beach, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, who enjoyed playing Bingo, traveling and reading, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009.

Joan E. "Joanie" Miller, 57, of Edgewater and a a cook, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009.
