Zone 2 City Commissioner Jack Grasty captures triple crown of endorsements: Police and fire unions and Board of Realtors

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Zone 2 City Commissioner Jack Grasty stands alone among the nine candidates as the only one to win the triple crown of political endorsements leading up to Tuesday's primary: the police and fire unions and the Board of Realtors. Mayoral candidate Adam Barringer has the potential to also reach that achievement, having already locked up the firefighters union and Board of Realtors endorsements.

Female inmate found dead at county jail
DAYTONA BEACH -- A 28-year-old woman inmate at the Volusia County Branch Jail wa found unconscious and died Wednesday morning, the Volusia County Sherigff's Office reported.
No foul play is suspected in the death of Tracy Lee Veira, who was found unresponsive shortly after 10 a.m. , but autopsy results were not yet available Friday, said Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson, who added there were "no signs of trauma to her body."

Threats or intimidation won't deter journalism mission
I received an e-mail in my yahoo account and a second one in the readers forum section of NSBNEWS.net that I consider a nasty threat.
The Yahoo e-mail read: Henry, Mark my words. I gave you a good tip before. I know what's going on in ways you will never realize. I can see the future. You are doomed.
It was signed by someone using the handle of a gun manufacturer.
The other message on the NSBNEWS.net forum was milder.
Sheriff's 'Battle of the Badges' charity fishing tournament and festival today at Riverside Park and Pub 44
Sheriff Ben Johnson's annual Battle of the Badges charity fishing tournament returns to New Smyrna Beach today.
As usual, there will be plenty of activities, both on the water and on land, between 10 a.m.-3 p.m., when the fishing tournament weigh-in will take place at Riverside Park.
