Sheriff Ben Johnson honors several personnel including an NSB citizen volunteer

DAYTONA BEACH -- Andy Gygi, who gives his time to the investigative unit at the district office headquartered in New Smyrna Beach, is among several people honored as volunteers or employees of the quarter honored by Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson.

The road ahead for city government

It appears that everyone running for city office was under two mandates. The first, to get the city budget into balance without raising taxes and the second, to make the city more business friendly.

The one thing the city shouldn’t do is sit back and wait for economic improvement or “money from heaven” to bail them out. Mayor-Elect Adam Barringer understands this, which is why he pledged as part of his campaign to devise an economic development plan within the first 100 days of office, if elected.

Daytona Beach cops: Girl, 16, stabbed to death at bandshell; two others stabbed as well

DAYTONA BEACH -- A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death last night at the Daytona
Beach Bandshell and two other teens suffered non-life threatening stab wounds last
night with no arrests imminent, Daytona Beach police reported on their Web site.

Robin Munsch was reported deceased when police arrived on scene shortly after
midnight. Desiree Jures, 22, was being treated at Halifax Medical center for at
least two stab wounds and Jordan Hess, 18, was admitted as well, stabbed in the
back.

County Council members invited to VCARD luncheon Dec. 4

DAYTONA BEACH -- Members of the Volusia County Council have been invited to the annual holiday membership luncheon presented by the Volusia County Association for Responsible Development (VCARD).

Ormond Beach man struck and killed Sunday night after stepping onto U.S. 1 near Iron Horse Saloon

ORMOND BEACH - A 53-year-old Ormond Beach man walking from the Iron Horse Saloon parking lot was struck and killed Sunday night after walking in front of an oncoming pick-up truck he apparently did not see as he stepped onto U.S. 1, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Bruce Bolduc was pronounced dead at the scene of the 8:08 p.m. accident. The driver, William Groat, 58, of Grand Blanc, Mich., who was driving in the outside lane, was not charged.

Two boys, 7 and 10, critically burned boiling hot dogs

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Two brothers, ages 10 and 7, with severe burns on their faces, chests and arms, are hospitalized in critical condition and their mother commited under the state's Baker Act, for psychiatric evaluation, New Smyrna Beach police said of the early Monday incident at a duplex in the 400 block of 10th Street.
