Trooper collides with motorist in New Smyrna Beach while chasing a speeding biker

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A trooper in pursuit of a motorcycle on State Road 44, clipped an SUV while trying to turn onto Jungle Road this morning resulting in injuries to both drivers, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Trooper Melvin Lane, 59, was east on S.R. 44 trying to catch a speeding biker at 9 a.m. when he turned left and clipped a westbound Lexus driven by 57-year-old Debra Ann Bennett. The collision caused her SUV to flip.

New Smyrna Beach No. 1 after first day of 'early voting' for Nov. 2 elections

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Just like in the primary, New Smyrna Beach was No. 1 on the first day of early voting in advance of the Nov. 2 general elections.

The New Smyrna Beach Library had 495 voters, followed by the Daytona Beach Library with 436, the Ormond Beach Library with 411, the Ormond Beach Library with 410 and DeLand County Elections office with 274.

'Stand Down' on 60 Minutes illustrates the need for America to take better care of its war veterans

I felt sick to my stomach watching a segment on 60 Minutes about what may a last refuge for our war veterans who are in despair, especially the homeless  from as far back as the Vietnam War to the current blood shed on foreign soil in in Iraq and Afghanistan.

NSB Cut for the Cure Haircut-a-Thon to be held Sunday by Dapper Dan's

Denise Marie of Dapper Dan's,  cuts nephew Kenny's hair. Come Sunday, she and others will be cutting lots more for a good cause: The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- What do hair cuts and breast cancer have in common? Nothing, unless you want to do your share to help fight the dreaded disease.

From 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Denise Marie will convert her Dapper Dan's Haircuts and More, 633 N. Dixie Freeway, into the "Cut for the Cure: a Haircut - a- Thon."

Marie, along with four other stylists will donate 100% of the price of haircuts to the Susan Komen Breast cancer Research Foundation.

Saturday's JamFest 2010 in Edgewater a big hit with music fans

Uncle Kracker takes the stage Saturday at the JamFest 2010 at the sprawling Edgewater Ranch as part of Biketoberfest weekend and more specifically as a fundraiser to support the fallen in the military.

EDGEWATER -- It wasn't Woodstock, but with the talented bands and performers, Saturday's JamFest 2010 was a rockin' success at the 100-acre Edgewater Ranch just south of New Smyrna Beach, right off of interstate I-95 and S.R. 442.

Coast Guard rescues father and son from capsized boat 20 miles off waters of New Smyrna Beach

The Coast Guard rescued a father and son 20-miles off the coast  just before noon Wednesday after Bruce Falco, age unknown, radioed in a distress call that his 25-foot center console boat was taking on water and about to capsize, which it did in a matter of minutes. He and his son, Michael Falco, 15, of Orange City, were rescued as shown in these photos.

D-1 Maloney, Michael Contact was made with Maloney at his place of residence. He was placed under arrest on an active Volusia County warrant. The warrant was issued by Judge Beck for Failure to Appear ref possession of drug paraphernalia with a $1000 bond. He was transported to VCBJ.

Edgewater man, 58, and 18-year-old Daytona Beach man arrested on unrelated warrants charging them with possession of online child porn

Thomas Rodosky, 58, of Edgewater, shown here on the far left, and Timothy Hubbell, 18, of Daytona Beach, are each charged with multiple counts of possession of online child pornography in unrelated cases. Rodosky was arrested Thursday and Hubbell, the day before.

EDGEWATER -- Volusia County Sheriff's sex crimes investigators armed with search warrants headed Thursday to the Edgewater home of 58-year-old Thomas Rodosky where they found numerous images of children engaged in sexual activity on a computer in his house, an agency spokesman said.
