NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Edward and Patricia Hunt spent the morning with their 5-year-old boy at the beach. Then he was off to the babysitter so they could enjoy a stroll on Flagler Avenue and a glass of wine at Clancy's Cantina.

Below is a copy of my request to appear before the New Smyrna Beach City Commission, our supposed leaders, who to date have been totally indifferent as to the goings on over at Bert Fish, where "millions of dollars" of legal fees have continued to be run up by the attorneys; all the while that our elected and appointed officials are more interested in the same old back-slapping and kumbaya crap that this commission has been bragging about for way too long.

New Smyrna Beach cops: TD Bank on State Road 44 robbed by man

Photos by Henry Frederick / The TD Bank in the Winn Dixie plaza on State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach was robbed Saturday morning. Police said in a press release that they had bank surveillance photos of the robber attacked with the information, but there were none. These photos were taken Saturday night at the bank locale. A night commander with the NSBPD said she did not have access to any photos of the robber for media release since the incident occurred on the earlier shift.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The TD Bank, 1811 State Road 44, was robbed earlier today of an undisclosed amount of money by a lone robber, New Smyrna Beach police said.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Several thousand people jammed Riverside Park on Saturday for the Memorial Day Weekend Striker Tournament, also known as FishStock. People of all ages enjoyed the sights, sounds and sunshine. Some, like 11-year-old Cory Troiano, didn't leave home without man's best friend, in this case, a shepherd mix, named Alex.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The man suspected of robbing the TD Bank on State Road 44 Saturday morning was apprehended and arrested without incident just before midnight, New Smyrna Beach police Sgt. Valerie Joyce told NSBNews.net early this morning.

Pierson man dies after jumping from moving car

DELEON SPRINGS -- A 25-year-old Pierson man died Saturday night after leaping from a moving car in DeLeon Springs, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office reported.

Jose Perez was in the front passenger seat of the car while his girlfriend was driving. Perez wanted to drive, but the woman refused to let him because he was drunk, Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said. As the argument escalated, Perez suddenly opened his door and jumped out, the spokesman added.

Memorial Day weekend roadway death toll in Volusia County stands at 2: Port Orange biker and Pierson car passenger

DAYTONA BEACH -- The number of people killed on the roadways of Volusia County stands at two with the most recent a 56-year-old Port Orange motorcyclist in a crash near Daytona Beach on Sunday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

William Lee Hughes was riding his 18981 BMW motorcycle northbound on north on Tomoka Farms Road when he was struck by motorist Lakecia Harris in a 2007 Chevrolet, who ran a red light at the intersection while heading west on International Speedway Boulevard, troopers said. Hughes was thrown from his bike and pronounced dead at the scene of the 3:34 p.m. accident.

One year ago I was graduating from middle school and was anticipating my first year of high school and the next step to the rest of my life. Now I can officially say I survived being a “freshie,” and actually enjoyed being a ninth grader. Sure, I went from the top of the food chain in middle school to the bottom in high school, but honestly, the horror stories are way worse than what I actually experienced.

Fishstock 2011 tourney at Riverside Park makes many fishing enthusiasts happy
