Editor's Note: The following was written by Volusia County Chairman Frank Bruno regarding economic development:

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- It’s been 10 years since the County Council created the Voles County Department of Economic Development because the private sector-driven Volusia County Business Development Corporation wasn’t working. The County Council made a wise decision a decade ago; I see no justification to change course.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Two task forces have been established that are aimed at improving small business contracting with federal agencies.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Adsil, a Daytona Beach manufacturer of protective and energy-saving coatings, has been awarded contracts by the U.S. National Park Service and U.S. Postal Service to apply its clear coating to HVAC systems throughout the Southeast.

DELAND – The West Volusia Tourism Advertising Authority has a newly redesigned website: visitwestvolusia.com.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Collections at the Southeast Volusia Advertising Authority increased nearly 20 percent for February compared to 2009 figures.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The New Smyrna Beach Lions Club will hold a pancake breakfast Saturday at the New Smyrna Beach Lions Club, 2340 Sunset Drive.

For $5, you get three fluffy pancakes, ewo sausages orange juice and coffee. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the Lions Community Service Fund. For more information, please call 423-5556.
