September winding down with elections looming

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- There is a lot that is good about the elections process and things that are not so good.
You would think that in the 21st century -- the digital age -- finding a listing of candidates for every race in Volusia County would be a snap -- easily accessible by Internet search. So unless I'm completely clueless, could somebody please tell me where I could find such a listing?

DELAND -- With at last eight children hit by cars while walking or riding bicycles to or from schools across Volusia County, Sheriff Ben Johnson wants to make sure there are no such mishaps involving children coming onto or off school buses because of motorists not obeying the the rules of the road.

With that concern in mind, he's ordered his deputies step up traffic enforcement to protect students getting on and off school buses.

DAYTONA BEACH -- The News-Journal and its sister papers are following the lead of The New York Times in charging readers to access its online content as print media struggles to find a happy medium with keeping its broadsheet advertising in place while losing readers in droves to the Internet.

Ironically, The Times unloaded its Florida papers in a fire sale to the News-Journal's parent company, Halifax Media, earlier this year.
