Academian & Civic Giant in Daytona's African-American community seeking countywide political office investigated for alleged 'brutal' rape

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Willie J. Kimmons, an academian and civic giant in Daytona Beach's African-American community and a candidate for countywide office in the November elections was investigated on allegations by a woman that he "brutally raped" back in February, but because she didn't report her claim for several days and Kimmons represented by legal counsel would not answer questions by cops investigating it, the State Attorney's Office "no info'd" the case in June.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- While things have been calm so far this week along the World's Most Famous Beach in Daytona and further south in Daytona Beach Shores, Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna, the flying of the red flag Sunday was apropos, considering a rare instance of  three shark bite victims on the same day near the South Jetty on the New Smyrna Beach side.

Plus there was the rescue of a man in a boat that was overwhelmed by choppy waters and a teen swimmer injured when he was caught by surprise by a strong wave that slammed him head first into the bottom.
