Congressman Ron DeSantis weekly message / Headline Surfer®WASHINGTON, DC -- The depth and scope of the data breach at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) continues to grow - records going as far back as 1985 and the information of any federal employee could have been compromised.

DAYTONA BEACH -- It is Christmas Eve and I am thankful for the freedom and liberty God has given our family by placing us in a free state. Yet, I can not dismiss the concern I feel each day for the very present reality of our God given liberties being stripped from our daily lives by a few compromised men and women who seek to increase their own power, privilege, and position.

I am regularly criticized for regularly criticizing "our" side in the battle to restore liberty. The truth is I no longer have a side in politics. Neither of the two controlling parties represent constitutional restraint, love of individual freedom, minimal government intrusion, or minding our own business.

JAMESTOWN, IND -- One could conclude the Democratic Party has swung too far to the left and peril awaits them in up-coming elections. Debt is no longer fashionable; a tool many bragged was trendy. One need not look far to see citizens across the land rising in revolt to the status quo.

1,000 Facebook likes for first 100 days in office

Editor's Note: Here is the weekly message from Congressman Ron DeSantis...

Congressman Ron DeSantisWASHINGTON, D.C. -- Dear Friend – Last week, you helped me reach over 1,000 Facebook likes, which was a wonderful way to celebrate my first 100 days in Congress! Thank you to everyone who has connected with on Facebook and on Twitter at @RepDeSantis - hearing from you is the most important part of my job.

It is a privilege and an honor to represent Florida's sixth district in Congress! When I announced last week that I had co-sponsored legislation mandating that the new drone medal not be given a higher precedence than the Purple Heart, I also stated that it was my hope that Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel would simply handle it himself at the Department of Defense level.

I am pleased to report that Secretary Hagel has discontinued the drone medal entirely.

Tony Ledbetter of Ormond Beach named to key Florida Republican leadership post

ORLANDO, Fla -- Pledging to his GOP colleagues that he would be a "conservative voice" for the party, Tony Ledbetter, chairman of the Republican Executive Committee of Volusia County, was elected Congressional District 6 chairman for the Republican Party of Florida at its annual meeting this weekend at the Rosen Centre Hotel.

How is it many today have become ignorant of our founding principles?

“A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government.” -- Thomas Jefferson

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Is it not ironic that Thomas Jefferson is an icon of the Democrat Party? And that he would be on record believing that government, in order to be “good” government,” should be minimal and stay out of the way of individuals’ efforts to profit from their labor?

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Is there no end to hypocrisy when it comes to the argument about legal voters being required to show legitimate identification in order to exercise this important right? To get a library card, board a plane, cash a check, drive a vehicle, buy a bottle of wine and in many other ordinary life events, we are required to produce picture identification.

Both the Rubio and Scott camps said they were remaining nuetral -- at least for the time being.
