 Latisha Anne Vester, 33, of Daytona Beach, who was an employee of Metra Electronics in Holly Hill,  was charged March 30, 2012, with falsely reporting a bomb threat where she worked.

HOLLY HILL -- An employee of Metra Electronics told investigators she called in a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of 300 co-workers because she "needed a break."

PONCE INLET -- Two races from the August primary went unchanged after recounts.

Ponce Inlet Town Councilman Joseph Perrone won re-election over Joe Villanella by one vote, a manual recount confirmed three days  after the Aug. 14 primary. The 1-vote margin in his favor remained the same, 609 to 608 over upstart Villanella.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Researchers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission received reports of more than 150 dead or distressed greater shearwaters, gull-like birds, along Florida’s east coast in Brevard, Indian River, St. Johns and Volusia counties in mid-June 2012.

After examining some of the birds, researchers believe these deaths are related to stress from the species’ long, trans-Atlantic migration, following reports of the situation over a week's time.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Biketoberfest 2011 was quieter than a lawn mower on the first night of the four-day weekend at what was soon to be an extinct Pub 44. Just after midnight there were three Harleys in the parking lot and one bicycle.

2010's Biketoberfest recession was 2011's depression, at least through the first 24 hours at what for the last couple of decades or so has been the ground zero in Southeast Volusia for bikers, babes and booze.

DeLAND -- Motorists in the vicinity of a well-travelled certainly got an eyeful on a mid-April morning five years ago, when traffic flow was interrupted by a woman walking around topless, DeLand cops said.

Police received a number of calls about the 30-year-old woman's state of undress at the intersection South Orange and West Euclid avenues during the mid-morning hours of April 18, 2008.
