Oak Hill clerk's unprofessional behavior adds to city's reputation as 'Joke Hill'

OAK HILL -- I’ve been reading with interest the fiasco that Oak Hill has become. What puzzles me most is why the city doesn’t find it necessary to do background checks on all its employees.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Were any of your present during the attempted presentation by our local Congresswoman Sandy Adams the other evening at city hall?

Forget what side of the political landscape that you may be on, this was a disgrace for our city, but more for its mayor.

Marco Rubio ratchets up political energy with appearance at Daytona Beach News-Journal Center

DAYTONA BEACH -- The crowd of about 200 filed into the theater at the News-Journal Center and found every seat had a perfect view of the plain black stage. They waited patiently through introductions of the myriad local politicians as did the man of the hour, who stood near the back next to the curtain. But when he strode to center stage it was like turning on a thousand-watt light bulb and audience members went wild. Yes, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio was greeted like a rock star.

“Keep the faith and it will happen." That's what I keep telling myself. I am in the entertainment business and like many other businesses; mine has been in the toilet. I am going to try and stay upbeat in this blog because basically, I am an optimist. However as I think about planning a 2011- '12 season, I see nothing upbeat to write about.

NSBNews.net photo / Deposed Daytona State College President Kent Sharples gives the thumbs up Nov. 18, after a separation-retirement agreement is announced by board Chairman John Tanner, shown here at left.

Daytona State College is in a world of hurt over $1.5 million taxpayer dollars used to pay the bills the Community Cultural Foundation incurred last summer when planned concerts failed to generate either public interest or money from ticket sales. Mayor Glen Ritchey's plan to bring back the LSO as a remedy is nothing short of a delusion.

We should not expect more from Obama than to punt and vote in droves in 2012

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- I remember well how things were in 1991. The USSR imploded and the United States was on top of the world.

Nancy Pelosi's liberal agenda not the recipe for strengthening our country at home and abroad

“The fact is, elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do.” It’s disconcerting to see this statement by a member of the U.S. House in light of the uproar going on in the Middle Eastern countries.  Not just any member, mind you, but the Democtrats' leading voice on Capitol Hill, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Extreme right-wing GOPers: Banging Obama's head on the debt ceiling

In a novel by Dostoyevsky, the Grand Inquisitor reasons with a returned Jesus who has been going around healing people, apologizing for the fact that the Established Church will have to crucify Him again because He doesn’t agree with their religion. With just such a line of reasoning, Republicans are piously attempting to crucify President Obama for not agreeing with their right-wing perversion of the GOP.
