DELAND -- Internationally acclaimed author and media critic Dr. Jack Shaheen, a former CBS News consultant on Mideast affairs, will present his documentary film, Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People, 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Stetson University.
DELAND -- Dr. Roberta Favis, professor of art history and curator of the Vera Bluemner Kouba Collection at Stetson University, will present a gallery talk Thursday, Nov. 11, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Homer and Dolly Hand Art Center, 139 E. Michigan Ave., DeLand. The talk is free and open to the public.
DELAND -- Stetson University's School of Business Administration has been named one of the nation's "Best 300 Business Schools" in a new guidebook released Tuesday by The Princeton Review.
The education services company compiles its guidebook of top business schools annually based on input from more than 19,000 students in Master of Business Administration programs accredited by AACSB International - the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, as well as statistical data received from the institutions.
DELAND -- Stetson University has again been recognized for its academic excellence by being included in the 2011 revised and updated edition of The Fiske Guide to Colleges, which is in bookstore shelves.
Stetson is one of eight Florida colleges and universities and more than 300 nationwide included in this year's guide. Publishers of the Fiske Guide say they include "the country's best and most interesting colleges and universities." An overview for each school is given, covering subjects including student body, academics, social life and financial aid.
DELAND -- To coincide with 9/11 commemorations nationwide, nine Stetson University faculty members will explore the issue of Islamophobia during a panel discussion from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, Stetson spokeswoman Cindi Brownfield said.

EDGEWATER -- Ashley Reed, a 19-year-old freshman at Florida State University, and a 2009 graduate of New Smyrna Beach High School, has received two prestigious honors.
DELAND — For the first time ever, a woman is president of Stetson University with Saturday's ireception welcoming Wendy B. Libby, with 1,000 people on hand to welcome her at the Edmund's Center.

"We are a community that is not content to rest on its laurels," said Libby, who has an MBA and a doctorate in educational administration.
