BREAKING NEWS: Port Orange cops: Two men shot & killed at Sunrise Pointe Apartments

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- Two men were shot and killed this morning in an apparent drive-by shooting at the Sunrise Pointe Apartments on Richel Drive, cops said.

Police responded to  9-1-1 calls at 7:52 a.m. of gunfire in the parking lot at the sprawling residential complex.

Cops arriving on the scene found two men with multiple gunshot wounds. Both were transported as trauma alerts to Halifax Health Hospital in Daytona Beach and pronounced dead in the ER.

Police do not know who is responsible for the double homicide and are asking the public for help.

Headline Surfer reached out to Port Orange Mayor Don Burnette who said he didn't have any information on the double homicide other than what was released by the police. "Any time something like this happens here in Port Orange it is shocking," Burnette said. "It's just absolutely shocking and sad."

"On (Saturday) February 26, 2022, at approximately at 7:52 a.m, Port Orange Police Department units responded to Sunrise Point Apartment, 1375 Richel Dr, for a shooting call. Two adult males with gunshot wounds were located in the parking lot and transported to the hospital.  Unfortunately, both subjects succumbed to their wounds and were later pronounced deceased."

The press release continued: "The investigation is open and being conducted by the Port Orange Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.  If anyone has information concerning this incident, please contact Detective Benezette at 386-506-5893 or Central Dispatch.
