DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. -- The Daytona Beach Shores City Council has selected attorney Christopher Conomos to fill the City Council seat vacated by Richard Frizalone, who is moving outside the Daytona Beach Shores city limits.

He was the only candidate to qualify to run for City Council Seat 1 in this year’s municipal election and, therefore, was elected without opposition.

With his selection to fill the remainder of Frizalone’s term, Conomos took office four months earlier than expected. His term runs through November 2026.

“I can’t say enough good things about (Conomos),” Richard Frizalone said of his successor on the dais. “I think he’s going to do a marvelous job.”

Conomos, a Shores resident since August 2018, is a Central Florida native with strong ties to Volusia County going back more than 30 years. His childhood of weekends and summers in New Smyrna Beach fostered a love of surf, sand, and small towns.

An assistant public defender and an Army National Guard veteran, Conomos proudly served in Florida's Army National Guard for six years as an infantryman and rifle team leader.

Conomos earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Mich., in addition to a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Central Florida. He attended Valencia Community College and the University of Central Florida for his undergraduate degree in Political Science and also studied Government Policies, Public Safety, and Infrastructure.

The new municipal leader has served as a school volunteer and role model for JROTC students.

Conomos is married to Stacy Pope Conomos and is a father and grandfather.
