DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Main Street Bridge was closed for several hours this morning due to a motorcycle accident that left a bike dangling from the drawbridge.

Here is a synopsis of what occurred as described in an email media alert to Headline Surfer from Daytona Beach Police PIO by Messod Bendayan: The motorcycle was heading east on Main Street toward the beachside when it ran through one of the traffic arms after it dropped into position to allow the drawbridge to rise. The motorcycle rider wasn't seriously injured, but the mishap led to the motorcycle dangling off the bridge.

The damaged traffic arm had to be replaced and a bridge inspection completed by bridge safety engineers with the Florida Department before the bridge was re-opened about 12:30 p.m.

Motorists were rerouted to International Speedway Boulevard, the Silver Beach/Orange Avenue or the Oakridge/Seabreeze Boulevard as alternates.

Daytona Beach cops did not release the name of the biker., who was transported to Halifax Health Hospital as a precaution, though he was not seriously injured.
