ORMOND BEACH, Fla. The Florida League of Cities recently recognized Ormond Beach Mayor Bill Partington with a 2020 Home Rule Hero Award.
Partington has earned this prestigious award six times for his tireless efforts throughout legislative sessions to promote local voices making local choices, protect the Home Rule powers of Florida’s municipalities and advance the League’s legislative agenda.
Partington said he was honored to receive the award.
"It recognizes my commitment to the Ormond Beach community and my passion for local self-government,” Partington said. “As the government closest to the people, a city has a unique bond with its citizens. Protecting our city from one-size-fits-all-legislation is meaningful advocacy, and I thank my colleagues on the Ormond Beach City Commission for lending their voices of support to the same."

Home Rule is the ability for a city to address local problems with local solutions with minimal state interference," Ormond Beach city spokeswoman Jenn Elston said.
Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials, both elected and non-elected, who consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to members of the legislature and help give a local perspective on an issue, Elston added.
Partington is seeking his third two-year term as mayor in the 2020 elections.
