NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Two boys, ages 14 and 15, armed with a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, robbed the Right Stop gas station just before midnight Sunday night but were caught after running from the premises by cops.
"That's pretty brazen what they did," New Smyrna Beach Police Detective Sgt. Eugene Griffith told NSBNews.net. "It was a takeover robbery."
Griffith said the ages of the alleged robbers, ages 14 and 15, is not that unusual from his 22 years of experience in law enforcement, but what is the loaded lethal weapon the younger of the two teens was holding.
Here is a synopsis of what happened at the Right Stop, 218 N. Dixie Freeway, as described by Griffith in an email media alert:
"Responding units were able to locate two of the suspects that had fled on foot to the 600-blk of Greenlawn Street. During the arrest, officers were able to recover a firearm believed to have been used in the robbery, along with an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries were reported during the incident, but several customers in the business at the time of the robbery have not been identified."
The clerk was able to positively identify the boys, Samuel L. Hayward, 15, and Raheem M. Marshall, 14, who were each charged with felony robbery with a firearm.
Both teens were transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Daytona Beach where they were being held today on a no-bond status pending first appearances in juvenile court.
