ORLANDO, Fla. -- The City Beautiful's municipal leader was exposed to someone with the coronavirus and is self-quarantining at home out of an abundance of caution.

"With the virus still impacting our community, this remains uncharted territory for us all, me included," Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced Saturday afternoon on Twitter.

"With the virus still impacting our community, this remains uncharted territory for us all, me included," Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced Saturday afternoon on Twitter.

"This week I found out I was exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. While I had no symptoms, out of caution I got a rapid test and received a negative result."

Dyer continued, "Knowing that it can sometimes take days to test positive during this time I’ve been self-quarantining and serving our city from home to limit my interactions with others and potentially unknowingly spread the virus. I continue to feel well at the moment with no symptoms."

Dyer said this is a wake-up call for him too, even as he's taken to heart the wearing of a mask and practicing social distance as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control, which also recommends frequent hand washing and avoiding large gatherings.
