Volusia County School District welcomes Matt Kuhn as its new chief technology officer with the start of the school year

DELAND – Volusia County Schools welcomes the appointment of Matt Kuhn as the district's new chief technology officer.

The school board approved his position at its mid-June meeting and his official start date was July 1. The new school year for students started on Aug. 15.

At his appointment, Kuhn shared that one of his goals “is to bring a balance of innovation and stability to ITS so that we can collaboratively come together to build a strategic plan to build up our strengths and shore up our weaknesses and become a more effective organization to support classrooms, schools, and the administration.”

Kuhn graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aircraft Engineering Technology. His Master’s degree is in Secondary Science Education, and his Ph.D. is in Educational Technology Administration, both from Denver University. He also has a Network Systems Technology – Security Certificate from Arapahoe Community College. 

He previously served as chief technology officer for the Thompson School District in Loveland, Colo. He is also the author of books and articles on technology in education. His experience includes teaching science and school principal.

As the CTO of the Volusia County Schools Information Technology Services Division, Kuhn manages several areas such as network infrastructure, technical support, instruction applications, telecommunications, audio/visual systems, enterprise implementations, database administration, student information systems, and more.
