Internet newspaper Publisher Henry Frederick holds up his Florida Press awards / Headline Surfer®Photo for Headline Surfer® by Fred Bellet / Henry Frederick, publisher of Headline Surfer®, the award-winning 24/7 internet newspaper, holds up his three awards in the 2013 Florida Press Club competition at the recent banquet at the Salty Dog in Malabar in Brevard County. Frederick has won more journalism awards (seven in the last two years alone) in Central Florida than any other reporter since the mid-1990s.  

DAYTONA BEACH -- For the second year in a row, Headline Surfer® Publisher Henry Frederick took home multiple awards for the most daily stories of any individual journalist in the 2013 Florida Press Club competition, the only statewide celebration of the Sunshine State's excellence in journalism.

Locale of fatality involving victim in wheelchair crossing S. Ridgewood / Headline Surfer®Headline Surfer graphic / Diane Elizabeth was killed Oct. 6, 2009, when she tried to cross traffic-heavy South Ridgewood Avenue in her wheelchair without using a crosswalk, which she had previously been advised by South Daytona cops not to do.

SOUTH DAYTONA -- A 69-year-old woman confined to a wheelchair was struck and killed killed four years ago while trying to cross South Ridgewood Avenue outside of a crosswalk.

It wasn't as if Diane Elizabeth Knoop didn't know better to use the crosswalk. South Daytona cops said she had been warned before to use the crosswalk when trying to cross Ridgewood in her wheelchair.

OAK HILL -- An Oak Hill man was arrested Thursday for child abuse and battery after hitting two of his children during an argument because he believed his teenage girls, 15 and 12, were talking back to him.

The children told responding deputies that before the fight, 53-year-old Jeffrey Cleaves had driven drunk with the teen and a 4-year-old in his vehicle. Volusia County Sheriff's deputies arrested Cleaves for child abuse and battery.
