NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A 59-year-old Deltona motorcyclist was killed Saturday night when he was struck by a motorist in a Ford Bronco that made a left turn from southbound Tomoka Farms Road onto Ludlow Boulevard in Samsula, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Earnest Alan Smith, who was wering a helmet on his 2007 Honda while riding north on Tomoka Farms Road, was ejected from his motorcycle in the collision in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene of the 9:40 p.m. crash.

Chadwick Dean Vogt, 40, of Port Orange, the driver of the 1990 Ford Bronco, was not injured. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

DELTONA -- The loss of the Space Shuttle from the place it took flight this Tuesday morning is a sad day indeed for all of us in Volusia County, the Sunshine State and across America. It is more then an end of an era.

DELTONA -- Snoopy the pit bull made a lot of friends on Facebook during his nearly month-long quarantine for nipping at another dog -- more than 24,000 of them -- and on Friday he was sprung from doggie jail to his Deltona owner.

DELTONA -- A 26-year-old woman was struck and killed early Wednesday night after she stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle while crossing Howland Boulevard in Deltona, a Volusia Ciunty Sheriff's spokesman said.

The crash, which occurred at  6:20 p.m. where Howland and Courtland boulevards intersect, is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office. Shinnique Comer, a Deltona resident, was crossing the road when she was struck by a mini-van that was traveling westbound on Howland Boulevard.

"Several people witnessed the collision and called 911 to report the crash to the Sheriff's Office," agency spokesman Brandon Haught said. "Deputies were on-scene within 4 minutes, where an off-duty paramedic was attempting to revive the victim. Witnesses told deputies that she was talking on a cell phone while crossing the street."

DELTONA -- The city is sponsoring a blood drive, “Guns N’ Hoses: Law Enforcement vs. Firefighters” for Florida’s Blood Center’s from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday. Their mobile collection unit will be in the parking lot at City Hall, 2345 Providence Blvd.

DELTONA -- The city has chosen two members of the University of Central Florida Football program as grand marshalls for the inaugural Deltona Christmas Parade which begins at 6 p.m. Saturday on Providence Boulevard.

Manny Messeguer, special assistant to UCF football coach George O’Leary, and UCF linebacker Willie Mitchell, will ride in the parade as grand marshalls.

DELTONA -- We have a tradition at our Thanksgiving table. As we enjoy dinner we go around the table and everyone says what they are thankful for. Some of the comments are thoughtful, some funny and sometimes the young ones struggle with the concept of expressing what they are thankful for.

DELTONA -- Thomas Fey, the 28-year-old Deltona man wanted on a warrant accusing him of stabbing his parents over the weekend, was apprehended tonight in Hernando County after a chase through four counties, A Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman confirmed.

Orange, Lake, Sumter and Hernando Counties by deputies after he reports earlier in the day had him seen in several Central Florida communities.

"The suspect was captured this evening and has been taken into custody in Hernando County," Gary Davidson, spokesman for Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson, told NSBNews.net.

"Thomas Fey's vehicle was first spotted in Orange County by an Oakland Police Officer. Fey sped from the scene, west into Lake County, where Lake County Sheriff's deputies joined in the pursuit.

DELTONA -- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is on the scene of a stabbing incident in the 3100-block of Hyder Ave, involving two victims known by the suspected attacker, 28-year-old Thomas Fey.

"Deputies were notified at approximately 5 p.m. that two adults, one man and one woman, had been stabbed multiple times by a person known to them," Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught told NSBNews.net.

Both victims, whose names were not released while the apprehension of their suspected attacker continues, were transported by Sheriff's Office helicopter to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
