A 2007 Ford Focus is shown overturned in the median of Providence Boulevard after the driver, Brandon Schmid, 17, apparently hit a tree there after 3:20 a.m. Sunday. He was killed as was a passenger, 16-year-old Jordan Golaszewski. A second passenger, 23-year-old Samuel Bengochea, survived despite being the only one ejected. He's in critical condition at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford.

DELTONA, Fla. -- Two teens -- 16 and 17 -- were killed and a 23-year-old man critically several hours before dawn Sunday when a compact car driven by the 17-year-old struck a tree in the median of of the 1500 block of Providence Boulevard and overturned, an official with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.

DAYTONA BEACH -- What pushed an aparently despondent 20-year-old Deltona man over the edge in taking his own life with a shotgun blast to the head after shooting his way into Halifax Hospital and teeing off on two nurses with the butt of the lethal weapon just before 4 a.m. Sunday is not known.

DELAND -- Sheriff's investigators have identified Tuesday night's shotgun slaying victim as 25-year-old Antwan Harris of Deltona.

As reported first by Headline Surfer,  investigators are dealing with Volusia County's first reported murder of 2013, where the victim was dropped off late Tuesday at Florida Hospital Hospital-DeLand where he died less than an 40 minutes later, an agency spokesman said.

I remember when I popped the posterior cruciate ligament in my knee while playing pick-up basketball, I could not push off with that leg anymore, and as a result, I stopped playing basketball because I was not longer as productive as when I had the full use of both of my legs. DAYTONA BEACH -- Just halfway through his rookie year, Volusia County Sheriff's Deputy Cody Cochran responded to a 9-1-1 radioed from dispatch for an unconscious baby boy that had fallen into a family pool in Deltona.

The child had been removed from the pool, but was limp and unresponsive and had no pulse, when the 22-year-old deputy arrived on scene. The 1-year-old toddler's life was now in Cochran's hands.
