The commission that night voted 4-1 to negotiate with the Angler's on a revised lease.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The second and final candidates debate in advance of the Sept. 22 primary will be held 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ meeting hall, 203 Washington St.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Mayoral candidate Adam Barringer, incumbent Zone 2 City Commissioner Jack Grasty and Zone 1 City Commissioner candidate Judy Reiker all received "recommendation" for support from the New Smyrna Beach Board of Realtors for the Sept. 22 primary and in the general election.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Zone 2 City Commissioner candidate Steve Sather said he regrets to this day that he bought an ounce of cocaine for $2,000 from a man who turned out to be an undercover cop, for which he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to community control and then probation.

Because it was his first offense, adjudication of guilt was withheld for the then-41-year-old New Smyrna Beach resident. Fast forward to 17 years later and Sather, now 58, is having to come to grips with his past all over again.

Mayor Sally Mackay is upset that challenger Adam Barringer does not have the word 'for' on his political campaign ads since he is not an incumbent as required by Florida statutes. He said it was an oversight and fellow challenger Marilee Walters said there are bigger issues in the campaign to focus on than semantics.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Today is the final day to register to vote in the Sept. 22 primary races for mayor and two city commission seats, according to the Volusia County Board of Elections.

City residents who are not registered may do so by going to the Department of Motor Vehicles (in the K-mart plaza on State Road 44), the New Smyrna Beach Public Library (1001 S. Dixie Freeway) or at the Volusia County Board of Elections Office in DeLand (125 W. New York Ave., DeLand).
