Endeavor space shuttle launch scrapped

Well, you can forget about getting up for the 7 a.m. launch of the space shuttle Endeavor. It has been scrubbed by NASA because of a hydrogen leak, according to the space agency.

And that means the North and South Causeway bridges won't be snarled by motorists looking to park and catch a glimpse of the early Saturday morning launch, though traffic will likely be heavy regardless because it's going to be a sunny weekend ands a lot of people will be heading to the beach.

Saturday's rain real yawner compared to recent drenching

Can you believe it? We got more rain, thanks to a line of thunderstorms that passed through Volusia County on an otherwise sticky-hot Saturday afternoon

The National Weather Service issued a series of thunderstorm warnings throughout the region, including one for East Central Volusia that read kind of scary, though when all was said and done by the warning's expiring time of 5:45 p.m. was plain old rain -- and not more than an inch. After last month's week-long drenching that gave us nearly 20 inches of rainfall and lots of flooding, a day like today was no big deal. A real yawner.

No real stimulus in Obama spending programs

The socialist policies and stimulus spending programs of Barack Obama and the Democratic party have conservatives, entrepreneurs and others like retired New Smyrna Beach businessman John Mullennex, throwing up their hands and saying, "This is the first time in my life that I am afraid for my government.”

Mullennex's concerns are echoed by many, if not most conservatives, who see the present actions of President Obama and the present Democratic party as a major threat to our freedom, prosperity and way of life.
